It is God’s righteousness that matters because
none are justified in God’s sight without the divine forbearance that passes
over the sins of the “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Faith
in Jesus matters as well because without it there is no reason to be confident. However, when Jesus is reduced to a private password for paradise then faith becomes another
version of the law and it is the work of faith that saves one from “the wrath that is to
come” and not the grace of God. But if faith proves “in the present time” that God determines what “the
future time” will be then our hope is in divine forbearance rather than retribution.
