There is no peace when righteousness is held captive to self
and salvation is defined by doctrines devoid of compassion or mercy. Salvation
near to you is near to me for the way faithful people turn their hearts to God
is to turn their hearts and hands towards their neighbor. You cannot love God
without loving your neighbor. Or as Jesus will say, “Love your neighbor as
yourself.” (Matthew 22:39) So when
steadfast love and faithfulness meet together righteousness and peace engage in
PDA (public display of affection) and the people prosper. All this is made possible
by Jesus, betrayed by a friend with a kiss, who by his death and resurrection
became the righteousness that goes before the Lord so that in “Peace be with
you” faithfulness might spring up in the most unexpected of places, the human
heart.
